Today I’m going to be doing something a little different. If you know me at all I love to read, but after I started college & now since graduating I haven’t been reading near as much. A few months ago I got the urge to start reading again & I wanted to share a few tips on how you can read more. Reading is a great way to gain knowledge & it’s even great for entertainment. So here are some tips to help you read more.
1. Keep a book on your phone.
This has been life-changing for me. On a whim I decided to download the book I was reading on my phone & it’s increased my reading by a lot. When you’re commuting, waiting in line, or on a break you can read. We always have our phones with us which makes this a great way to get in more reading. You won’t have to remember to grab that book or find space in your bag for it.
2. Schedule in time to read
If you make reading a part of your everyday routine & you have a set time to read like maybe it’s before you go to bed. It will become a habit & you’ll find yourself reading a lot more. Part of my commute to work now involves reading & I’ve been spending a lot more time reading & I love it, I actually look forward to it.
3. Use Audiobooks
I’ve had people ask me on numerous occasions if using audiobooks is cheating & my answer is always no. If it helps you read & it’s what you have time for then no. Audiobooks are extremely helpful especially when it comes to really large books. It’s also a great way to multi-task, I love to crochet/knit so audiobooks come in handy for when I’m wanting to do something else with my hands. I also find it great to use audiobooks when cleaning. You may be the type of person who can’t sit & focus long enough to read & that’s why I also think audiobooks can be a great tool for those of you who may not enjoy reading as much.
4. Read only the books you enjoy
A lot of people force themselves to read books they don’t enjoy. I’m not here to say you should never read outside of your comfort zone, but I think it’s important to read books you enjoy. Life is too short to read bad books. You’ll read more if you read what you enjoy. I’ve always found reading books I’m not interested in a chore & then it stops me from reading. You’ll find yourself wanting to read more when you’re reading something that you enjoy.
You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.
