Quiet Time

We live in a society that’s become quite obsessed with meditation. There are apps now to help you with guided meditation & there are all sorts of youtubers talking about meditation. Everyone is trying to find peace & seek out the answers that life has. Christian meditation is a lot different, new age meditation involves emptying the mind whereas Christian meditation requires filling your mind with the Word of God, though I do believe there is a place for quieting ourselves before the Lord. I felt earlier this year that I really needed to take time to just be quiet in my devotional times. A lot of us tend to go through the motions when it comes to our devotional times. It’s another thing to check off the list of to-dos & many times we end up missing what God is trying to say either through His Word or directly to us. I believe it’s important to just take a few minutes & listen. He may not speak anything, or He may speak exactly what you need, or maybe something you weren’t even expecting. I think it’s important that we make time to listen, I know how difficult this can be. I get distracted so easily, my mind likes to wander. Even if you take a few minutes before bed, or maybe you need to put on some relaxing music. Whatever you need to do, I encourage you to do it. I encourage you to get before God & just listen, your problems may not change, He may not speak exactly what you wanted to hear, but I promise you, you’ll be more at peace than you were before. Allowing yourself to just sit & soak in God’s presence even if it’s just for a few minutes can change everything. Let’s not neglect taking time to be quiet before the Lord. Let’s let 2018 be a year where we spend more purposeful time with the Lord. Let’s allow ourselves to be grounded in Him & not what’s going on around us.

“Be still, and know that I am God!

Psalm 46:10a

The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still

Exodus 14:14

For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him.

Psalm 62:5

  1. Beautiful encouragement. When we place our time with God on our to do list, we put ourselves under the law. We ought to remember what a privilege it is to come before the Almighty and just what He gave up so that we could! That motivates me! Blessings!
