Singleness & Why It Shouldn’t Stop Us

Just last weekend I turned 23 and I’m going to be honest I wish time would slow down just a little bit. I remember being 13 and in my perfect world I had thought that by at least 22 or 23 I’d have a boyfriend, or even be married. Now that I’m 23 I laugh at that memory. It’s not that having a boyfriend wouldn’t be nice, but clearly God doesn’t think it’s time yet and I’m okay with that. One of the reasons why is because my singleness doesn’t define me and it’s not going to stop me. It shouldn’t define or stop you either here’s why. A lot of girls today feel as if their life begins once they get married. That somehow having a husband and home qualifies them. There’s nothing wrong with desiring these things, praying for these things, or even dreaming about them. What’s wrong is when your life stops or you don’t go after things because well, ‘I’m not married’. God has called each and every one of us and we are responsible to answer that call whether you’re single or married it doesn’t matter. A few years ago in one of my Bible College classes my Professor did a lecture about singleness. He talked about how you have to live your life for God as if you’ll be single for the rest of your life. He talked about how people make the excuse I’ll do it once I’m married, but the fact is when you get married your life changes and things you once thought would be possible maybe aren’t anymore. He listed a lot of positives to being single like how you’re only responsible for yourself, you have extra money, you have time and how all of these things can be used to further the kingdom of God. No matter your age or your relationship status you can go after the call of God on your life. In fact God wants you to go after it. Please, don’t let your singleness stop you from accomplishing the dreams God has placed in your heart. I vowed that for the rest of my life I would serve God and do my best in whatever He asks me to do that includes while I’m single. I hope you’re encouraged to never let anything stop you from running after the call God has on your life.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Isaiah 41:10

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Matthew 6:33

“God is still writing your story. Don’t let go of your faith because of what you have yet to see.” — Unknown

  1. I got here because of by His Grace Bloggers Facebook page. I’m so happy to have read your post I spent a lot of my young life( I’m 27) pining away for marriage before I met Christ as well I ended up in a really bad relationship because Ii idolised marraige and wante it at any cost. I can honestly say that God showed me that if I would loosen my grip on these temporal things and Hold onto him with all my heart soul, mind and strength: He would not only use me to do his work but he would also supply everything that I needed. So be encouraged dear heart and serve God faithfully he knows the desires of your heart ❤

  2. I love your reminder to seek first the Kingdom of God! Yes! If we are striving hard after that, everything else will fall into place. And I don’t mean that if we follow the Lord in all we do, He’ll suddenly give us a boyfriend or marriage. I mean that He will lead us in the way we need to go! (I’m married, but I love the wisdom that my single sisters share. It’s so good!)
