I’m going to be honest here, I haven’t always been the type of person to look on the bright side. Let’s just say it’s a work in progress for me. Earlier this week I was encouraged & inspired by the life of Paul. I’m currently going through a class called Prison Epistles, we’re going through the books of the Bible that Paul wrote while in prison. Can you imagine writing letters of encouragement to people while in prison? Pretty crazy I know. While I was going through my lecture it started to dwell on how Paul saw his imprisonments in a myriad of positive ways. He saw them as an opportunity to identify with other persecuted believers, as a way to identify with Christ, as a display of service to Christ, as an opportunity to pray & praise, as an opportunity to minister to believers, also as an opportunity to hope, & as an opportunity to trust in God’s ultimate victory. This isn’t even all of the different opportunities Paul saw while he was in prison. My Professor ended up asking us how we view our hardships & if we allow ourselves to be drawn closer to God during those hardships? It was super challenging for me to look at the different areas in my life & really evaluate if I was seeing the different opportunities in them & if I was truly looking on the bright side of things. There were times where Paul was depressed & hopeless we all go through those times we’re human it’s okay, we’re not perfect, but I really want to encourage you to check how your attitude is in the season you’re in. It can be SO easy today to look at another person’s life & envy their season because we tend to only see the best parts of it, but instead of wishing we were in a different season why not look at the bright side & see the different opportunities God may be giving you during this time. God is with you no matter what you’re going through, you can count on that & the best place to go to is Him. Allow these seasons of your life to draw you closer to Him. He’s there with arms open.
I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
