It’s that time of year again. I go back to school starting next week & a lot of other people around me are doing the same. It can be an exciting time for some & a dreadful time for others. Believe me, I know school can be difficult but it’s important to make the best of it. So here I am hoping to help you out with some back to school tips. So let’s jump in.
1. Have a Good Attitude
When I was growing up in school my principal Pastor Gary used to say “Attitude is everything,” quite regularly & it honestly is everything. I believe if you choose to have a good attitude your perspective on a certain situation can change. Make sure you’re constantly checking yourself to see if you’re having a good attitude it’ll make your school experience a lot more positive.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
Philippians 4:8
2. Pray
Start off everyday with prayer. I found that this made such a huge different in my school day when I decided to start my day off with prayer. It doesn’t have to be super long but if you just commit your day to the Lord & pray for your teachers, friends etc. it’ll be really helpful for you. Another tip is to pray over your work, in my last year of high school I was struggling to finish things up & I would pray over every piece of paper that came onto my desk & it helped SO much. If you’re struggling in a certain subject I really encourage this as well. Prayer works.
The Lord is near to all who call on him,

3. Make Time with God a Priority
It’s so easy when school starts again to get so focused on all our assignments & homework that we forget about God. Make sure you spend time with Him. I used to put a reminder in my phone that would go off everyday at 4:30pm which was around the time I got home for school to remind me to do my devotions. It helped & being in tune with God & the Holy Spirit really just made school a lot easier because my spiritual health was spot on & I wasn’t lacking in that area which sometimes can make you feel frustrated & just not 100% yourself.
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

4. Make Good Friends
Having good friends around you while in school will make school a lot more enjoyable. One thing I would recommend is to avoid people who gossip. If you’re around those type of people it will add a whole lot of unnecessary drama & can actually be a huge distraction. Your focus needs to be on your school work, but when you have that extra time you want it to be enjoyable. Good friends are also important because they will encourage you & help you do the right thing when it comes to your work. They won’t be encouraging you to cheat on a test, or finding someone else to do your assignment for you. They can also be great study partners if their focus is similar to yours.

5. Be Kind
Be kind to everyone even when you don’t feel like it. You want to be showing God’s love at all times. I get it, sometimes you’re having a terrible day, but someone else might be having a worse day & the last thing anyone needs on a bad day is someone to make it worse by being unkind. Do your best to show kindness wherever you go, it might not be easy but it’s what Jesus would do & you never know how it can impact someone.
A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
Proverbs 15:1
6. Get a Word for the Year
Find a scripture, or a Word from God for the year. Something you look at when you’re feeling discouraged, or even something you might be able to share with a friend. Having something you can look back on over the year is very helpful in keeping you focused & encouraged.
