One of my resolutions for this year is to be more present in my day-to-day life and especially in my relationships. I was inspired by Aliza’s post 100 things I’d rather hold (instead of my iPhone). It’s become so easy to live inside our phones and I’m sure like a lot of you, you feel social media can be exhausting at times. Not necessarily because you feel the need to get a certain amount of likes or followers, but because people and their negativity, opinions, etc. can be exhausting. Last year I took 1 day a week without using my phone. That day was Sunday. I quickly realized that I felt so much better without being glued to my phone. 2016 was a very difficult year for a lot of people and so far 2017 has been pretty similar. I’ve found myself feeling very heavy with all the junk being spread across social media. So this year I’ve set out to go a step further I’ve actually deleted my Facebook app from my phone because personally that’s where the majority of the icky feeling stems from. I’m limiting my overall time on social media this year because there’s a lot of other things I’d like to be spending my time focusing on. Some of those things are my friendships, crocheting/knitting, writing, and photography. We’re given one life to live and I’d much rather spend my time investing in positive things vs. wasting my time being caught up in what’s going on, on the internet. I’m obviously not saying you can’t ever be on social media, but less of it allows you to be more caught up in what’s right in front of you. It’s also a lot easier to control what comes into your life and let me tell you, you have a lot more time do things that you love.
On a side note, I’ve noticed a lot of people today have a hard time hearing God’s voice and sometimes I wonder if that’s because there’s always so many people talking. With a limit to all the different voices you can really tune into the one that matters.
